Modules and Materials

As part of the RMAIS program, Graduate Fellows worked with the Faculty Advisory & Review Board to develop a series of modules to be used to guide discussion on topics pertaining to mentoring, professional development, and issues pertaining to women & gender in STEM. Fellows then implemented these modules as part of the 2018 & 2019 Student Ecology Research Program (SERP) seminar series. We encourage you to use these materials to facilitate discussion in your mentor-mentee groups, lab meetings, departments, colleges, or any other group who would benefit from such interaction.

RMAIS Framework for Module Development

We followed the following process to help Fellows develop their modules:

  1. Identify topics relevant to mentoring and/or inclusivity in the sciences.
  2. Develop a proposal using the RAFT (Role, Audience, Format, Topic) framework.
  3. Get feedback from advisory board and colleagues.
  4. Create module using the UbD (Understanding by Design) framework (template below modified from Wiggins and McTighe, 2002).
  5. Engage in guided self-assessment and peer-review and make final improvements to the module.
  6. Implement the module!
